General Lethargy in Traditional Chinese Medicine
In Traditional Chinese Medicine, general lethargy may be associated with Qi deficiency, Spleen Qi deficiency or Yang deficiency. Differentiation looks at whether there is poor appetite and loose stools, cold limbs and preference for warmth, or shortness of breath and spontaneous sweating. Classical formulas are matched to these pattern features rather than to lethargy alone. Accompanying signs such as tongue appearance, pulse quality and the presence of heat or cold help distinguish one presentation from another.
TCM Patterns Associated With General Lethargy
The same presentation may be understood through more than one pattern. Pattern differentiation weighs the accompanying signs, not the symptom on its own.

| Qi Deficiency氣虛證Deficiency Patterns | Easy fatigue, shortness of breath on mild effort, a soft or low voice, and spontaneous sweating with light activity. | Spleen Qi Deficiency脾氣虛證Deficiency Patterns | Poor appetite, loose or unformed stools, fatigue that worsens after meals, a pale or sallow complexion, and a soft or low voice.
