Formula Overview

Shang Han Lun formula for Blood stasis and Heat binding in the Lower Jiao (classically 'Heat in the Bladder'), presenting with lower abdominal pain, tension, night fever and possible manic symptoms or hard stools.

Therapeutic Principle

Traditionally selected when Blood stasis and Heat accumulate together in the lower abdomen, requiring both invigoration and purgation — unlike Xue Fu Zhu Yu Tang, which targets the chest and upper body, or Da Cheng Qi Tang, which purges Yang Ming excess Heat without primary Blood stasis.
