Frequently Asked Questions
Single Herb Granules
What are single herb concentrated granules?
They are individual Chinese herbs that have been extracted and concentrated into fine granules. Instead of decocting raw herbs, the granules are dissolved in warm water. Each product contains one herb, and its concentration ratio (for example 5:1 or 10:1) is shown on the product page.
How are single herbs different from formula granules?
Formula granules combine several herbs according to a classical TCM formula. Single herb granules contain one herb each, so a TCM practitioner can combine them into a personalised formula or adjust an existing one.
How are the herbs grouped on this page?
You can browse by traditional function — how each herb is classified in TCM, such as tonifying or heat-clearing — or by the plant part or natural source used, such as roots, flowers or fungi. The A–Z index lists every herb by Pinyin, with its English and Chinese names.
Which brands are available?
Single herb granules from Nong's and Hoi Tin. Many herbs are available from both brands; concentration ratios and pack sizes may differ, so please check each product page.
Do any products contain animal-derived or mineral ingredients?
Yes. Some traditional single herbs come from animal or mineral sources. They are grouped under Fungi, Minerals & Animal-Derived, and the source is stated on each product page.
How should I take single herb granules?
Follow the directions on the product label or the advice of your TCM practitioner. Single herbs are usually used as part of a formula chosen for the individual, so please consult a qualified practitioner before use — especially during pregnancy or breastfeeding, for children, or if you take other medicines.
