Herbs are extracted in water, concentrated and dried into fine granules. Instead of boiling raw herbs for an hour, you dissolve the granules in warm water — the same traditional formula in a quicker, more consistent form.
It shows how much raw herb is used to make 1 g of granules — for example, 5:1 means about 5 g of raw herbs per 1 g of granules. Ratios differ between herbs, formulas and brands, so always check the ratio and the dose on the product label rather than assuming one ratio for every product.
A compound formula is a classical recipe of several herbs, already combined in set proportions. A single herb granule contains just one herb; practitioners combine several singles to build a personalised prescription. They are not substitutes for each other.
Capsules, pills and other ready-to-take formats are pre-measured and need no dissolving. A capsule product and a granule product with the same formula name can differ in strength and daily amount, so they should not be swapped one-for-one — follow each product's label.
The pack size is shown on every product card and on the product page. As a guide, Nong's granules usually come in 200 g bottles, Hoi Tin granules in 100 g, and capsule products in 60 capsules or 108 g.
Each product page shows the pack size and information about the formula or herb, including its traditional composition for formulas. Directions are printed on the product label. If you are unsure how to take a product, ask your practitioner or contact us.
Granules absorb moisture easily. Keep the lid tightly closed, use a dry spoon, and store the bottle in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
