From Zhang Zhongjing's Jin Gui Yao Lue (Essential Prescriptions of the Golden Cabinet), Suan Zao Ren Tang is the classical formula for unrest of the spirit from blood deficiency with residual heat.
Classical Formula Composition

Suan Zao Ren (Semen Ziziphi Spinosae) — nourishes the heart and calms the spirit

Chuan Xiong (Rhizoma Chuanxiong), Fu Ling (Poria) — move the qi and harmonize the middle

Zhi Mu (Rhizoma Anemarrhenae) — clears residual heat and nourishes the yin

Who This Formula Is Traditionally NOT For
Not traditionally matched to excess patterns with profuse phlegm-heat, or to acute manic states. Persistent sleep difficulty warrants medical evaluation.
