    Frequently Asked Questions

What is Zheng Gu Zi Jin Dan? Are Qi Li San and Yunnan Baiyao the same?
Zheng Gu Zi Jin Dan (正骨紫金丹) is a classic formula from the Yi Zong Jin Jian, centered on moving qi, invigorating blood, reducing swelling and stopping pain for traumatic injury with blood stasis and pain. Qi Li San invigorates blood, disperses stasis and stops pain, leaning to traumatic bleeding. Yunnan Baiyao transforms stasis and stops bleeding, leaning to various traumas. The three cannot be interchanged by equal weight. Write Zheng Gu Zi Jin Dan. Contraindicated in pregnancy.
What is the composition and traditional use of Zheng Gu Zi Jin Dan?
Classic composition: Ding Xiang, Mu Xiang, Gua Er Xue Jie, Er Cha, Shu Da Huang, Hong Hua each one liang; Dang Gui Tou, Lian Rou, Bai Fu Ling, Bai Shao each two liang; Dan Pi five qian; Gan Cao three qian. It acts to move qi, invigorate blood, reduce swelling and stop pain. It is used for traumatic injury, all pain and blood stasis congealing. Xue Jie, Hong Hua and Dang Gui invigorate blood and transform stasis; Ding Xiang and Mu Xiang move qi and stop pain; Da Huang and Dan Pi cool blood; Er Cha astringes; Lian Rou and Fu Ling strengthen the Spleen; Bai Shao relaxes tension; Gan Cao harmonizes.
How do you choose raw versus prepared? Can Qi Li San replace it?
Da Huang is prepared; Xue Jie is used. Qi Li San leans to traumatic hemostasis; it cannot replace moving qi and invigorating blood by equal weight. Commercial products follow regulated compounding; do not self-modify.
